Email Marketing Specialist at Nathan James

Nathan James is looking for an Email Specialist to manage, optimize, and grow our DTC email and text marketing initiatives in support of our mission. The Email Specialist will report to the Head of DTC Sales and this person will be responsible for creating, analyzing, and optimizing outgoing customer emails, sms/mms messages, and campaigns that feed into that channel. This person will be running the email marketing channel and will be a key contributor in helping us achieve 4x growth over the next 4 years - crossing $200M in annual sales.

This role comes at a very exciting time for Nathan James. We’re only in our fourth year of business and we’ll be surpassing $50M in sales - entirely wholesale through four eCommerce retailers. Now, we are making significant investments to drive rapid growth in the DTC channel and the Email Specialist will be responsible for driving customer acquisition, retention and growth strategies for the DTC channel. 

The primary responsibilities are:

  • Lead and execute on all email marketing and text message campaigns to bring value to our current and prospective customers via sales promotions, product launches, and value added content campaigns.
  • Plan, implement, manage, monitor and report on A/B, multivariate, and segmentation tests for email and text campaigns.
  • Lead and execute on-site zero-party data capture campaigns.
  • Optimize data tracking strategies for the email channel.
  • Collaborate with the Head of DTC Sales to optimize on-site landing pages.
  • Collaborate with Performance Marketing Manager and Brand team on paid or organic off-site zero-party data capture campaigns.
  • Define and communicate creative requirements to Brand for email-based assets.

This role will help us by: 

  • Communicating with current and prospective customers directly via our email and text channel is one of the most profitable ways to grow our sales and reach.
  • Creating a robust direct communication foundation to convert and retain customers will allow us to better utilize our overall marketing budget for acquisition efforts.
  • The channel provides us with business insights that need to be analyzed to provide direction for the channel itself and other divisions like Brand and Product.

We have achieved remarkable growth in our four short years, and we’ve done it with minimal attention paid to our own website sales. Now that our products are in over 450,000 homes we have decided this is the time to start investing in our own direct channel and the Email Specialist is a critical part of that.

We’re looking for someone who is already an expert in designing, implementing, optimizing and scaling email and text messaging campaigns. You know the ins and outs of Email Service Providers and are an expert in audience segmentation for sales, content, and data acquisition campaigns because you’ve done it for years with a DTC digitally native, eCommerce brand.

You have a creative mindset that can craft brand messaging and copy that aligns with the Nathan James brand and resonates with our audiences. You also have an analytical mindset that balances the creative side allowing the key performance metrics to drive ongoing strategy.

You are organized, detail-oriented, and can communicate effectively within and across company departments for efficient collaboration. Your written skills are a core strength.

You are proactive in your process and learn quickly, leveraging both software and documentation. You innately work on self improvement.

You may have a degree or you might not, that’s not what we’re looking for. We care about what you can do and how you do it.

On a granular level we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of hands-on email marketing campaigns
  • 1+ years of hands-on sms/mms marketing campaigns
  • 2+ years analytics experience
  • 2+ years experience with Shopify+ stores
  • 2+ years experience with Klaviyo ESP

For this role we do require that your normal workday has at least 4 hours overlap with the California (PST) workday (currently UTC-8) without impinging on your personal/family life. Our salaries are competitive for similar roles based in the country you will be working from.
